Packing

Published on October 4, 2011 at 9:44 pm

I’m gathering stuff together for a quick trip down to daughter’s, and have big decisions to make. Should I take my knitting with me? How many projects? The boring one that I’m doing now? Should I take that Kauni that I just got, to show Kate, and start a new shawl with it? But what pattern? I’m thinking Multnomah, which will show off the color repeats. Or maybe I should just take some spinning. Of course, the main project I’m working on now is on the Traddy, and that’s a bit big to haul around – not that I didn’t haul it to an alpaca farm two days last month for spinning demonstrations. I could just take the LadyBug, as she does travel easier. But I don’t have a project going on her right now, but there’s that garnet red merino over there……

And then, there’s power cords and places to charge stuff. I could certainly get away with just my cell phone, which has more computer power than we used to get to the moon in ’69, but I would have to charge it up.  And there’s the GPS – if I don’t have that, I can’t find my ass in the shower worry about making a wrong turn.  And the Bluetooth speaker in the car, for hands-free phone use. Thank all the merino sheep that my Sirius radio doesn’t need to be charged. Oh, the camera(s) and batteries. Shit, I’ll need to bring the laptop, and a generator too, probably.

No room for clothes.

The Race is Over

Published on October 3, 2011 at 9:17 pm

Once more, Race Weekend is over in Dover! My plans for isolation, stuck at home on race day, went to hell when the phone rang and I got called in to work an evening shift. It was too close to race time to try to go towards the track so I went out to Rt 9, turned right and came back into town a few miles south. Was able to get to work with minimal problems.

Then tonight, another call-out and I stayed for OT until 7p, raced home, grabbed another bag, ran out the door to attend a Guild meeting - was just a half hour late and I do so enjoy them.  I wish I could attend Thistledown Guild but I always have to work on Saturdays.  I love the location of their meetings at the John Dickinson Plantation, and already know some of the members. I want need to increase my fibery skills.

I got a package today from the Loopy Ewe with 2 different skeins of Kauni inside, my present to me for something or other. I would take a picture and show everybody, but the sun hasn’t shined here since July, I think, and it’s getting darker earlier each evening. Soon, I’ll have to take all my pictures on my two days off – at least the ones where I want to show true colors.

Sat down here with 2 Lindor Truffles (in the deep Blue for dark chocolate), put them on the back of the couch cushion while I grabbed the laptop and put it on my where else lap. While my hands were holding the laptop up, that damn shark of a dog pounced on and stole one of my trufffles. Foil wrapper and all went down. Damn stupid poodle.

Read what you can on today’s poster. You get the idea, even if you can’t read the fine print.  Do it, ladies.

Race Sunday

Published on October 2, 2011 at 12:21 pm

Had plans for a leisurely Sunday – Woke up to the sounds of loudspeakers. Is something already going on over at the track or is it crowd/traffic control in the madness that is very nearby? Not sure. Shortly after, I heard the first of many planes and helicopters overhead, filming the traffic now and the race later in the day. With the thousands of drunks out there, it was a good day to plan on things here.

First chore was to go through two storage containers full of yarn and make some keep/toss decisions. I haven’t seen/gone through these two in years and really didn’t even remember what was in them.   Check. Done.

Second chore was to sort through storage bins and drawers in my bathroom. Again, stuff gets shoved in at a greater rate than it’s used, quantities build up, stuff in the back never gets seen again. I was determined to go over it and carried a large trash bag with me when I started. If I haven’t used this stuff in that long, I really don’t need it now. Much of what I found went into the bag.   Check. Done.

Laundry in the washer.  Have a knitting project on the needles and a spinning project with the 3rd bobbin half full. When I get it done, if there’s any fiber left over, I’ll top them all off to try for relatively even lengths, and plying will begin.

Peaceful. Relaxing. Maybe I’ll even get that “Shades of Red” shawl blocked out – with the weather changing, I’ll get a lot of use out of that. Black slacks, a white shell and that shawl – will look good.

Then the damn phone rang, someone called out of work again and there’s no one else to go. So I’ll have to go out and drive in amongst all those shit-faced lunatics, Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!

But to make sure there’s something enjoyable here, I’ve got a picture of the Alpaca Festival I went to two weeks ago, a wee one that was 2 weeks old when the picture was taken.

Her name is September Surprise! They are most often born in the spring!
