Twas the day before Christmas……

and all through the house not a creature was stirring???

Well that’s a load of shi feathers if I ever heard it.

Right now, the house is peaceful. All got up early, big breakfast was made and demolished. Kate got all her menfolk herded up and out of here by 930am to go up north about an hour’s drive to visit with her husband’s folks.  (this all took a lot of stirring and scurrying!!)

Pop and I each thought to make a last-minute run to the grocery store on Tuesday night, and each of us thought of and wrote down a list of things needed. But the roads are still not the best here, due to the great amount of snow that fell over last weekend and the lousy plowing that gets done here AND, to be fair, with so much snow on every surface that is not a city street, the daytime warming gets melted snow flowing into the streets, where it freezes shortly after dark. So I stopped at the grocery on my way home from work on Tuesday, hoping to beat the icy roads. Great Plan – except that my grocery list did not exactly match his idea of what we needed.  And if he’s willing to go to the store on Christmas Eve, well, I’ll hold the door open for him as he leaves.  I’ll feel better when he brings MY car back, though. The bed of his pick-up looks like Mount Everest, so he has no place to put any purchases. His small Tonka truck passenger seat doesn’t hold much.  He’s got my RED baby.

The dishwasher is going, and the washer and dryer.  While it may be a holiday, it’s also my 2 days off, and then I have to work 9 days straight, and I like to wear clean clothes to work.  I’ve already peeled what seemed like 312 pounds of potatoes, but as they all came in a 10-lb sack, I guess it wasn’t that much. We are a potato-eating crew.

Everything is wrapped, except 2 things that I remembered while I was in the shower. They may not get wrapped. I may not remember either item again until April.

The sons will be down later this afternoon. The oldest and his wife, and an assortment of children, his, hers – never sure which/who is coming. Bri will be here alone as his Lynn is up in NY with her family, but on the 26th the two of them are heading down to Virginia Beach, for a week in one of my condo rental deals. They’ll spend New Year’s Eve there.

My best to all for a wonderful holiday, prosperous new year.

The eve of the eve

Daughter, her husband and the Twinks are here. While she and I visited, the menfolk, hers and mine, went out and shoveled.  Guess that’s what men do?  Hers does, if there’s a chore around. Got the whole driveway cleared, too.

Big dinner at a big table, finally one that will seat all comfortably tomorrow night.

Kate and Joe have gone off to visit friends who are also home for the holidays. One grandtwin wanted to go, one wanted to stay.

I don’t think it gets better than this.

It’s not all gonna get done. There’s not enough time, and I just don’t have the “ooomph.”

But we have heat again, furnace was fixed first thing this morning! So the house will be warm when the boys get here tomorrow.
