Honeysuckle

Stuff I know today.

I am stuck at home, sick, and I’m not having any fun. While most normal folks can just let a cold “run it’s course,” I don’t seem to be able to do that. My body likes to walk down the garden path to Bronchitis-ville and Pnuemonia Land. Maybe it’s the “weakest link” theory after years and years as a heavy smoker that I have such a tendency to take a simple cold and make a big effing deal out of it. Add into the mix the throat surgery I had several years ago, that causes every bout of coughing to feel like someone is stabbing me in the vocal cords with a large sharp knife.   I’ve learned the hard way to get help ASAP at the first signs of anything that may be going down into my chest. The first thing my doctor does is get me onto the strongest cough syrup money can buy – it pretty much stops all the coughing – pretty much stops me, too. I’m sleeping close to 18 hours a day! And as a preventive, I’m on a strong antibiotic, too, in hopes of preventing the bronchitis/pnuemonia.

The new color for the upcoming spring is Honeysuckle, per Pantone in an online article I read. Last year, it was turquoise. The article I read said that, with all the challenges in the world today, we need a bright uplifting color. Well, that may be true, but what do I do will all the turquoise in the closet?

I’m gonna like this color. Wonder if I have anything like this in my stash?

It was nasty cold outside today, with a few flurries off and on. No accumulation, though.

These meds have my head so befuddled that I can’t knit. I can’t stay awake long enough to figure out where I am in the pattern. I can’t concentrate enough to even listen to an audiobook. Thinking is beyond me. I told my doc to just shoot me but he refused.

When knee-high stockings look like this, they shouldn’t go in the laundry, they should go right into the bin.

I think the elastic is shot.

Knitpicks had a big sale on, as much as 35% off -  I got enough Wool of the Andes to make 4 sweaters and paid for a little more than one! I HAD TO HAVE spruce, cobblestone heather,  and a deep red that’s not showing on their website – Current, I think. And 2 skeins of sock yarn, and 2 skeins of heavyweight WOTA – a hat and a narrow scarf maybe?

I’m falling asleep again.

It’s December!

So I updated the picture on the top of the sidebar – which makes it official.

Holiday plans are slow in coming. Christmas Eve/Christmas Day family togetherness just doesn’t work well for anybody. I have to work both days, my newly-married son is going to spend the holiday with his new in-laws, and the daughter and the handsome Marine have a planned trip.

OK, so we go to plan B. We’re almost all adults. We’re not waiting for Santa to come down the chimney. We’ll just have our celebration at a time/date that works better for us all. So I got the weekend before off – took vacation days for Friday and Saturday, the 17th and 18th of the month, and will have my usual Sunday off. This will work as daughter will be here that weekend anyway, dropping off the twinkies with us, and it will allow the others to make whatever plans they wish for the “actual” day, pleasing spouses as appropriate.

So I send an email out, Hey, everybody, get together and decide who’s arriving, when you’ll be here, how many are staying over, how many nights, and when do we want to have the big dinner together??   I thought, being adults, they could sort this out on their own, and all I would need to figure is when to put the ham in the oven.

The one who I thought was arriving on Friday is not coming until Saturday afternoon.  Why did I take 8 hours of vacation time on Friday?  One wants dinner very early on Saturday, so he can go back home the same day (a 3-hour trip each way)  ?????  One says his wife has to work on Saturday, the pre-holiday season being very busy and she is needed there, and it would work out better for them if I did this all on Sunday.  Why did I take 8 hours of vacation time on Saturday?

So I’m thinking that on one day, I’ll do the ham, and whoever is there on that day will sit down and eat. On the other day, I’m just gonna make grilled cheese sandwiches for whoever shows up.

And I’m not telling anybody which day is which.

Ho! Ho! Ho!

On this day…

And I need to remember that more often.
