Out and about

It was quite cold here, but I had to get outside, cold or not.  I have to work a longer-than-usual stretch, traded days off with a co-worker so that she could take more days off together and use less vacation time. So I wanted to spend today doing something other than household chores.

These are Canadian Snow Geese, and I guess they’re heading back north.  We are on the flyway, very near Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, where the geese stop for a few days, rest, have lunch with friends and such, every year, year after year. Here they are protected. I go up there often with a shitload of cameras.

Walked around for several miles, which was good for me, but cold on hands and ears. Cattails fascinate me.

As we were leaving cold Bombay Hook today, heading out the road that leads down to the bay, we saw a FedEx truck heading in – and Pop says, “He must be delivering the mosquitoes.”

Thinking of Spring

It’s the First of March and it’s been a long, ugly winter in these here parts. I’m damn tired of scraping ice, sliding on ice, watching snow fall, looking at how deep it is, hearing the husband swearing at the depth of it and the amount of shoveling he’ll have to do. Sleet is not my friend. I never even liked driving in the rain – so snow and ice aren’t particular favorites, either. I prefer my roads covered in sunlight.

FEBRUARY  – I’m not sorry to see you go.

March – Bring on some warmth.

I’m ready for it!
