Yarning on the way
There’s a very nice yarn shop on the way to Daughter’s house and I made a quick-and-easy detour off Route 50 into Chester, MD on Kent Island – just east of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The shop is Island Yarn Boutique; I’ve been there before and it’s lovely. Now I promised Pop I wouldn’t buy anymore yarn – I think he made some comment that indicated I had almost as much yarn here at home as most stores have in stock. This was a gross exaggeration. Still, there’s no denying that I’ve got a good-sized stash and don’t really need to add to it. Actually, I wanted to see if there was any spinning fiber there and told him I would limit myself to that. And I almost kept my word.
I did get 2 4-oz packets of “Meriboo” – 70% Merino and 30% Bamboo from Frog Tree Yarns. Wonderful colorways!

I’ve not spun with a Bamboo blend before, so I’ll be doing a bit of experimenting first. I’m thinking it’s going to be more slippery than fibers I’ve worked with before and I don’t want it getting away from me!
The shop’s site indicates that they are going to have a Jordana Paige trunk show from March 17-24. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get back to see what will be there, but Sue, the owner, had a few items on display. While I promised the husband not to bring home any more yarn, I made no statements about patterns! And this one, Sylvar, was made up and on display in the store. Having seen it, touched it, I don’t think the picture comes anywhere near doing it justice. It was beautiful! The design calls for waist shaping, and I may eliminate that, as my waistline is no longer shaped the way the young model’s is – it doesn’t appear that it will throw the rest of the knitting off if those stitches are not decreased. The lower part of the top-down pattern is simple garter stitch. The pattern says that worsted weight yarn called Yummy Worsted by MissBabs was used; if that’s what the model in the store was made of, let me tell you that it was a lovely choice. A tonal yarn, delicate shadings, very nice. (Glad I didn’t see that yarn in the store – it would have been damn hard to keep my promise!)
And a pair of sheep earrings.
