I’ll still be standing here

“A long damn time ago,” you said, “maybe something…. but then – ”

I first heard this song in early 1984, when it was released in the US – and it took me back so many years, and the tears fell.

And they still do. Every time I hear it.

But to wait for you, is all I can do and that’s what I’ve got to face
Take a good look at me now, ’cause I’ll still be standing here
And you coming back to me is against all odds
It’s the chance I’ve gotta take

Busy Week

Went down to daughter’s last week, stayed overnight and came back on Friday. Hit a yarn store in Prince Frederick on the way down, spent time playing with the boys, relaxing with Kate, got to go with her to her doctor appt in the morning and meet her midwife. She is big, and tired, and carrying just like I did. From the back, one would not know she is pregnant; from the front, well, it’s amazing that she can walk, and most people might think that she is at least 8 weeks farther along than she is. (I was the same way!!) Baby is just in there packing on weight now, in proper position for his Big Day. I had to leave way too soon (or way too late, considering the traffic mess I got into in Annapolis and the stop-and-don’t-go-at-all traffic on the freaking Bay Bridge. I was halfway to the other side of the bay before I picked up any speed. The radio was VERY LOUD to distract my wee brain from where I was!

This is another lovely bridge nearby – we are heading north over the Patuxent River. On the left is Solomon’s Island, way to the back right is NAS Pax River, and the water at the far back is the Chesapeake Bay.2011-10-07 13.49.21.jpg
This bridge is too damn high, too damn narrow and the sides are too damn low. Only sea gulls should be allowed to cross this bridge.

And then back home and back to work. Next day off was spent at doctor’s offices. As it is Breast Cancer Awarement Month, and the blog is PINK, I started off the day with an 8am appt for the annual “Big Squeeze.” Love the place where I get it done, and the doctor who reads the films immediately and lets me know right away that all is well. Then back to the eye doctor again. Was there last Thursday, before leaving to drive down to Kate’s. Doctor wanted to dilate my eyes and I said, “No way!” Not before several hours of driving and on a bright sunny day. I have enough trouble with bright lighting without that!  As I’m getting odd visually disturbances, he really wanted to dilate and take a look inside, so I agreed to come back again. He sees no “optical” reason for the symptom, and agrees with my second thought, that it is part of the migraine syndrome. Migraine is not all vicious headaches and vomiting. I had a bout with them about 20 years ago, and it was diagnosed as “stress-related.” I got the vision disturbances, and often, but not always, a headache followed. They were not the vicious headaches that others get, difficult perhaps but not completely debilitating.  At the time, that made sense. Now, well, who knows.  This time around, I’m getting just the vision issues, little if any headache, usually while at work. I’m wondering if it might be caused by the extremely unnecessarily bright lighting in there. Wearing sunglasses would probably not go over well.

And today was our knitting guild meeting. Lovely group of crafty friends. Got goodies, too. My friend had been visiting a friend in the UK, and brought me back some gorgous yarn.
Goodies of the day

I feel a beautiful shawl coming on! Note the sparkly bits in it!! And the color is perfect! Thank you, Rena.

And there was a lady there who was cleaning out her stash, books, toys and such, and I grabbed up a book that I didn’t already have:
Goodies of the day
and a Schacht boat shuttle and some bobbins.
Goodies of the day
I did well!

Got to get some chores done here, then off to bed to be fit for work tomorrow.

I should be doing other things

Hoping I’ll remember to take everything, but that’s unlikely. At least the laundry is done, batteries for all the devices are charging. I’m putting everything in a laundry basket by the door. This method insures that everything will go with me, or it’ll all be left home. I’ve done that sort of thing twice now. Once as a kid, when I flew up from FL to spend the summer at home, left a small totebag in the trunk of the car at Miami Airport, will all my brand new undies in it!  Another time, about 10 years ago, Paul and I were heading out to central PA for a week of camping and we each had separate bags. Again, I put it by the door for him to load into the back of  my Jeep. He said later that he never saw it and thought all was in the vehicle. I arrived with only what I was wearing.

And because of the memory issues, I’ve taken to taking even more pictures. When I forget, I can look it up!

When you’re dumb, ya gotta be smart!
