Had visitors this weekend, took a vacation day to spend more time with my daughter and her children. It started out with a wee bit of snow and slush and cold weather and ice on the roads, which caused me some stress because I’m a worrying freak, at least where the kids’ safety is concerned. All the main roads were completely clear and she had a quick, safe trip up here. I can still hear the boys’ squeals as they ran to the front door and threw themselves at me! Their mom was struggling with Sir Hefty in his carseat!

I’m holding a guy who gonna be 7 in the spring, and in my mind, he’s still an infant, and a toddler and a pre-schooler (in my mind, they all are). And he can read amazingly well, and he loves my Kindle, and very shortly after that, he found the NetFlix app on it, and was watching Ancient Aliens! Needed a headset so he could hear and his brother would not be able to.

I have quite a few headsets around the house!
With my Kindle in hand, one started playing Bejeweled and the other started grumbling. Luckily I remembered that most of the games on it are also on my cell phone. Here are the two of them, each with a device in hand, engrossed, not squabbling, helping each other see the moves. Why weren’t these things available for all those car trips between here and Rome, NY, with all three kids arguing, poking each other, whining, bored, griping, asking again “Are we there yet” or loudly proclaiming “I gotta pee!” or my favorite – “He/She is looking out my window!”
And then there’s the little guy – 10 weeks old now.

Kate and I sat and gabbed all Saturday evening, and on Sunday we went over to my brother’s house, so the little man got to meet Great Uncle Ray and Wonderful Aunt Joyce. We ate lunch there and also had warm apple pie, fresh out of the oven.
Daughter and the boys are safely home now, and the house is quieter. Damn.
