Celebrate!

Yesterday daughter and I visited my brother and sister-in-law and during the hours of gabbing, SIL Joyce mentioned that the 4 of us hadn’t gotten together and gone to the Chinatown Buffet in a while – we all love Chinese Food. So today, I remembered something my friend Tony had posted this morning:

ChineseNewYear2012

And then, I remembered that tomorrow is Joyce’s birthday. So the 4 of us, Paul and I, Ray and Joyce, went out to dinner tonight, celebrating both the Chinese New Year – the Year of the Dragon – and Joyce’s birthday. Good food, good company!

I have a good idea like this about every 8 years. Stick around for the next one.

Kids home!!!

Had visitors this weekend, took a vacation day to spend more time with my daughter and her children. It started out with a wee bit of snow and slush and cold weather and ice on the roads, which caused me some stress because I’m a worrying freak, at least where the kids’ safety is concerned. All the main roads were completely clear and she had a quick, safe trip up here. I can still hear the boys’ squeals as they ran to the front door and threw themselves at me! Their mom was struggling with Sir Hefty in his carseat!

I’m holding a guy who gonna be 7 in the spring, and in my mind, he’s still an infant, and a toddler and a pre-schooler (in my mind, they all are). And he can read amazingly well, and he loves my Kindle, and very shortly after that, he found the NetFlix app on it, and was watching Ancient Aliens! Needed a headset so he could hear and his brother would not be able to.

I have quite a few headsets around the house!

With my Kindle in hand, one started playing Bejeweled and the other started grumbling. Luckily I remembered that most of the games on it are also on my cell phone. Here are the two of them, each with a device in hand, engrossed, not squabbling, helping each other see the moves. Why weren’t these things available for all those car trips between here and Rome, NY, with all three kids arguing, poking each other, whining, bored, griping, asking again “Are we there yet” or loudly proclaiming “I gotta pee!” or my favorite – “He/She is looking out my window!”

And then there’s the little guy – 10 weeks old now.

Kate and I sat and gabbed all Saturday evening, and on Sunday we went over to my brother’s house, so the little man got to meet Great Uncle Ray and Wonderful Aunt Joyce. We ate lunch there and also had warm apple pie, fresh out of the oven.

Daughter and the boys are safely home now, and the house is quieter. Damn.

Doesn’t have a damn thing to do about the local weather – predicting snow (pardon me for using that particularly heinous 4-letter word) overnight, mixed with sleet. Then rain tomorrow, and snow/sleet for tomorrow night. As I have enough yarn and chores to keep me busy until hell freezes over, this wouldn’t bother me at all except that daughter and children are driving up in the morning. Well, daughter is doing the driving, I guess the kids will just be riding and arguing.

Actually, it’s the name of a shawl and shawlette pattern. I made one by the same designer a few months ago, Summer Flies, after seeing it made up in a store near Kate’s. Both patterns are very well presented, accurate, and beautiful when made up.

Went stash-diving and found Dream in Color Smooshy in colorway Absolute Magenta, a red tonal and expertly dyed. It’s the one that hit me today!

Needed to cake it and had to go digging for the swift. Pop’s been moving stuff in and out of the back spare room so it’s going to be difficult to find things for the next 27 years.

And I have to take several pictures of it with the label, or I forget what the hell yarn I’m using.

I know I have 2 zillion things that I should be doing, but….   I’m a knitter. It’s what we do.

Should be house-cleaning and it ain’t getting done!
