Sweaters are coming right along here

Yeah, I know it’s big, but don’t forget there’s two of them, and so, two sweaters to knit.  And it takes time.  I’m using the  Incredible Custom Fit Raglan Sweater pattern again, and doing the other sweater with the colors opposite.  Tan with blue stripes.  Tonight he was in a good mood, after being sick for several days, and he was most pleased to try it on and model it.  I’ve got ends to weave in and the neckline to fiddle with.  The second sweater, for his “wombmate” has the body complete – I just picked up the stitches for the first sleeve – or now, is that the third sleeve?  These will fit just fine for next fall.  They don’t need more winter clothes for this season!

When I’ve made this pattern for myself, I made the neckline lower, as I don’t like anything that fits close at my neck.  And with young kids that always have a disproportionately large head, if you don’t make some sort of allowance, it won’t comfortably pull over their heads.  That’s why buttons and/or snaps are often seen on the shoulders of children’s garments.  I’ll have to be careful that any neck treatment doesn’t tighten that ease.

Next up after these – some finishing up on the pullover I made for myself.  Then I want to cast on again that pair of socks that I started correctly, loved knitting and mindlessly increased until they would fit over my SUV.    And Pop’s gansey, which may be my Epic Project of the Year.

It always happens that way

He has that effect.  On women.  Maybe he always has.  He sure has it now.

Sophie and Pop

He walks in the door, still hasn’t gotten his coat off, or put his coffee mug down, and she flips over on her back, spreads her legs, waiting for him to rub her belly!  Damn silly poodle.

I should be ashamed of myself

I really should be.  I should have some amount of self-control.  I should not be ordering yarn or roving.  I really don’t NEED any more.

Heh.

The Loopy Ewe is magnetic, and draws me in  (Well, th- th- that’s my st- st- story and I’m sticking to it)

So a box came with yarn, and it was a great surprise to me.  Yeah, really.

Purple Earth

Claudia Hand Painted, Purple Earth

Of course, anyone that knows my daughter would know why I’d chose this colorway.  The purples in it are beautiful.

Now, I do red.  Red car, red cell phone, red case for the iPod.  I DO RED.

Foxy Lady

Cherry Tree Hill Foxy Lady.

It has bits of browns, tan, greens in it, little bits here and there, lovely colorway.  It’s going to be wonderful working with it.  It’s already so nice to just sit and touch.

And some roving fell into the package, also a surprise to me.

Sakina Needles Lavender

This is a really sucky picture of the colors.  The greens are more light lime tones, the lavender/purples are much prettier.  By the time I get off work, run a few errands, get home, scratch, pour a drink (Caffeine-free Pepsi!!!!) I don’t have natural daylight to work with.  Colorwork without a light box is “iffy” at best.   My cousin, the professional photographer, (the one who never leaves any comments) probably has the perfect set-up for doing this properly – and the knowledge – and the equipment.  But he ain’t here.   So…….

Damn, do I have my work cut out for me.

And Pop wants that gansey sweater.  In sport weight.  Before he turns 90.

And then, the damn mailman showed up again, with the rest of the stuff.

I was so sorely Tempted…..

Reds into black, wee bits of lighter pinks, but no mistake this is sinfully RED and BLACK, it is wonderful and I love it.  Don’t nobody get near this one – it’s MINE.

And then soothing…..

Cherry Tree Hill, Birches

Isn’t that soft and easy on the eyes, restful.  Nice change, I thought.  Not what I usually pick out, but beautiful all the same.

And now, I need to introduce a Loopy Legend in her Own Time, honored by The Loopy Ewe herself.

Wow, what a beautiful colorway.  It’s gonna be tough on my old eyes working on that fine fingering weight, but for these colors, I’ll stay near the OTT lite and tough it out.

A scarf for daughter Kate –

Mead Scarf

Mead Scarf, by Elizabeth Morrison

I modified it slightely, by making it narrower, less repeats of the pattern.  I did this because, as a new, inexperienced spinner, I didn’t know how much yardage I had!  When I first saw the purple, it had to be for Kate, and I wanted to do this simple lace pattern.  I started it according to the directions, but as I worked I was afraid that I would run out of yarn too soon for the length I wanted.  Out it came, cast on less stitches, and was able to get the length that daughter would want.

Maybe this will make her smile.

What a wonderful surprise that all this yarn came in the mail. And exactly the sort of yarn that I would have chosen.  If I was choosing any, that is.  Not that I would, of course, ’cause of all the yarn I’ve already got, ya see.  I really don’t need any more.  (Is he looking this way?  Is he believing any of this?)
