Remember what happened…

And don’t think for a second that it couldn’t happen again.

Keep that thought in mind when you vote on our military budget.

A day to celebrate?

This is not something I usually celebrate – in fact, it’s the first time I’ve even heard of it, so I guess I’m way overdue.

Sophie

We got her when she was just a pup, 7 weeks old, I think. Kate and I went just to look at the litter. Ha ha! Like I have any control or resistance. We came home with her in Kate’s arms all the way. She has very good bloodlines, and should have been bred when she was much younger – but at the time, I was working full time (still am!) and I just didn’t feel that I had the time needed to properly care for a litter of pups in the house.

She’s almost 9 years old now, an old broad like me, and has a bit of gray in her coat (hmm, another similarity!). And she’s often a pain in the ass. Is there a pattern here? Guards Paul fiercely (cause he is the main source of meals and treats). Spends more time on my couch and my bed than I do – they call it a “dog’s life” ???   I should live so well, not a care in the world and all needs are provided without any effort on her part!! She doesn’t worry about job security, the size of this month’s electric bill, political issues or retirement savings.

She just lays about the house all day, nibbling kibbles when in the mood, napping most of the time. I wouldn’t mind that life at all, except for the peeing out in the front yard part – sometimes in the snow. For years, she went to the “Poodle Spa” every 6 weeks, for a bath, a massage, a fancy haircut, mani and pedi, and just to socialize with her friends. She doesn’t go as often now but still loves the attention they give her, comes home prancing, showing off her new ‘do, and exhausted.

Pain in the ass? Yes, still and often, but also a comforting friend.

Happy National Dog Day, old girl.

No time

for all I should write about.

How’s this pattern for a cute, simple shawl?

Thank you, Laura, for posting it.

So I started it with the yarn that’s been sitting here on my coffee table for way too long, waiting to be made into a pair of socks, which now probably isn’t gonna happen.

It keeps my hands busy.

Had a quick trip back home last week, to the town of Point Pleasant, NJ, for the funeral of an aunt, a lovely lady who was always there for everyone, seemingly forever. Happily married  for over 60 years, she set the example we all hope to follow. Her passing hurt, as did the fact that I haven’t been “home” for way too long, hadn’t seen her in too many years. Did get to see and visit with other family, and attended Mass in the home church that I went to as a child. Brought back a lot of memories.

Beautiful little church where the outside gives no clue of the beauty inside. Again, a lot of memories.

Maybe I should go back more often, to many things and many people. Need to do some heavy thinking.
