Sunday’s walk in the woods

I got some chores done today.  Some necessary stuff that really had to be done.  Like laundry.  And dinner preparations.

And then, I wanted to have a day that would just make me feel good!

First, I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with my oldest son.  And yeah, that made me feel good.

And then I went to Killen’s Pond State Park and just walked around.  Through the woods, by the pond, checked out the autumn colors.

It was great to just be out in the sun on a beautiful day.  I needed a bit of a jacket, but after I got walking at a good pace, I probably could have taken it off and tied the sleeves around my waist!

Killen's Pond

I could have just sat here and looked at the water, for like maybe 3 to 8 weeks – except that in 8 weeks, there’ll probably be snow in the woods and it’ll be damn cold out there.

Red Berries

These caught my eye, and I don’t know what they are!   The red was so bright, and they were so tiny, the size of baby peas.  And hundreds of them.  And why have I never seen them before.

Killen's Pond

What a nice place to spend an afternoon.   They put a bench right here, took the shot while sitting down.  Wasn’t that thoughtful of somebody?

I promised myself that I would post every day in November.

There’s nothing to write about today, so instead of even trying to come up with something witty or intelligent, I’ll just post an old photo!

Port of Balboa, Republic of Panama

See – once upon a time, the hair was dark and I was thin!  This is probably sometime in ’81, judging by the size of the child.  Kate was already born, as I arrived in country severely pregnant!!  This is the Panama Canal (Pacific side) and the old Bridge of the Americas would be to the right, out of frame, and the far side is south, towards Panama City.  We lived back in those mountains on the left.

When I look at this picture, I do see Kate’s wee Alex.

Autumn red

Out running errands the other day, no camera with me, and I saw some shrubbery between the parking lots near a batch of stores.  The leaves were FLAMING red – no camera would do it justice.  And all I had with me was the camera in my cell phone.

And I have no idea what sort of bush this is.

some sort of red-leaved bush

For the next few days, this color will be extraordinary.  Then all the leaves will fall off and it’ll be a collection of sticks and twigs all winter.   Right now, this week, the red is all you see.
