National Delurkers Day

Delurkers Day 2009 Yes, indeed – it’s National Delurkers Day, the day when all you folks that stop by, read and click onward should be, uh, showing yourselves!  The day that folks should take the time to write the comments that cause bloggers to keep blogging.   While we do this for many different and personal reasons, there’s no denying that comments of any sort from readers are a major part of the impetus that keeps the blogger writing.

Come on, folks.  If I can expose myself this way, over and over, you can, too.  Leave a comment.  Do the right thing.

Safety Tip of the Day

Do not leave the house with the dryer running!!!

Two or three years ago, just before Christmas, the house across the street from us caught fire.  It happened shortly after I had left for work, so I got to see none of the action, but Pop was there, saw the smoke, the fire trucks, the people safely out.  One side of the house was gutted.  The cause was traced to a gas clothes dryer, and an over-full lint trap.  Apparently last week it happened again in a house down the other way.  As the house is the same style as mine and the one across from me, the damage appears centered right where the side door comes out of the laundry room, and I’m guessing its from the same cause.   (I’m not the Fire Marshall; I don’t know this for sure)  It must have happened during the day, when Pop and I both were working, as we didn’t see or hear when it happened.  And I think we would have heard several fire trucks 3 houses away.  Now the siding has been pulled away, the right end of the house is covered in blue plastic to prevent further damage from the elements, and there’s burned, charred debris all over their side yard.

Regardless, the warning bears repeating.  Clean the lint trap out before or after every load of clothes.  Get into a habit.  I pull and clean mine as I’m starting a drying cycle.  Whatever.  At the beginning or end doesn’t matter – just make sure it gets done.  And if you have to leave the house, open the damn door so it shuts off.  Getting that last load of laundry dry is not so important to risk losing everything you own.

Last time I was in the grocery store and after I stopped hyperventilating over the price of beef, even the toughest cuts, I found a beautiful loin of pork.  I love a good roast pork on a cold, wintry day; so does Pop.  He started to drool just looking at it in the refrigerator the day I bought it.   I suggested and he agreed that inviting Brother and SIL over to join us was a great idea.  Started with a salad, then roast pork and gravy, baked potatoes, broccoli, fresh baked biscuits, and a homemade chocolate cheesecake.  Good meal, good time, good company and SIL and I polished off a whole blender-ful of strawberry daiquiris!!  (That Pop sure does know his way around a strawberry!)

We must do this again – after all, why should both Joyce and I have to cook each and every night, when we live 6 minutes away from each other.  And to be honest, I rather enjoyed the extra fussing that I did!

While I had the camera out, fiddling with a Pentax lens from my old ME Super, I remembered to take a picture of the Forest Canopy Shawl.  I want to reblock it and do the outside edge differently.   Because I’m always in a hurry, and rarely think.  I didn’t pull the points out the way I should have.

I love the colorway and the pattern – will have to do another, as I have yarn aplenty that will look great.

And for those of you who were worrying about me, when there was a gap there in the blog posts, know that I’m well taken care of here.

Sopie on guard

I have my trusty guard dog here with me all the time.  Working hard.  Always on duty.
