Can’t trust that day.
I thought I was ready to go back. Sure needed to stop burning “Paid Time Off” sitting on my butt at home and wheezing.
So today, I went to work, sat there and wheezed. I was OK for quite a while but by mid-afternoon, I was ready to take a nap, my throat was crying, and I was starting to have a bit of trouble breathing. Not anything dangerous, just annoyingly uncomfortable. I did call my Family Doctor and got the paperwork for yet another chest x-ray and I will soon glow in the dark making me easier to find and I’ll get that done tomorrow or Wednesday.
This all really sucks big-time, as it will cost me a fortune, and I had so much ear-marked for major dental improvements. Sorry, but I’m continuing on with that because I made a commitment to the doctors handling it, and the rest will get paid off at $30 a month.
Knitting Stuff
I’m still working on Boring Emty-Brained Scarf.
But I may be starting another February Lady’s Sweater.
I’m ahead of myself here. On Ravelry, quite a few Central Delaware yarn folks have bemoaned 2 facts:
- We don’t have a local yarn shop – and by local, I mean with less than a 40 minute drive.
- We don’t have a local knitting/crocheting group or Guild.
Moaning worked poorly, so several started planning, and the plans culminated with a meeting a week ago Saturday at a local ice cream shoppe. Thirteen attended, which is a damn fine showing for a first meeting, and we will spread the word and continue to grow. Perhaps 4 of us are already members of The Knitting Guild Association, so we can form a local Chapter. The benefits were discussed, including the fact that not everyone must join/pay dues to TKGA to be part of our group, although I think a few more will join. It was decided to formally join and become an affiliated Guild. A name had to be chosen and we tossed many about. We finally agreed on Kent County Knitters and Crocheters – which will probably get abbreviated to KCKC or to KC2 !! It was strongly felt that, at the local level, we did not want to appear to exclude those that prefer or only work at crochet. Official application to form a guild will be sent to TKGA headquarters, so I guess the acceptance of the name is up to them.
We decided to start with 2 meetings a month – that may seem like too much for beginning.  But what we found, when trying to set a time and a day that was most suitable for all – was that absolutely no time or day would suit all. Few women today are available 24/7, “Oh, anytime, dear. I have nothing to do, ever.” Weekends were better for some, but others had child care issues then. Weekdays would exclude many who worked during the days. Evenings made some happy, and created clashes with work, school, child care for others. It was realized that any one time picked would not work for all, and there was no getting around that fact. We are able to use the same location in the evenings, and are going to meet there again, on the first Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9pm. One lady at the first meeting is an owner of a local business and offered its use so that we could meet there on a Sunday afternoon, a slower time for them. We agreed to try this schedule for 6 months, and then we will re-evaluate. Maybe we’ll chose to stay with this schedule, maybe there will be much greater attendence at one time or one location. We’ll see.
Two that attended are non-knitters (so far!!) and THEY WILL BE TAUGHT! They came hoping to arrange instructions. More experienced knitters wanted to start a KAL and they picked the February Lady Sweater – a really pretty one to do. Even though I’ve done one, I agreed to do another, and will be better able to help others as needed with one in my own hands.
Our next meeting is Tuesday, Feb 3, and I’m looking forward to it.
And I got my copy of TKGA magazine, Cast On and I’m going to sit and read it! It’s about colorwork this issue.
