when it benefits me!!!!

Months ago, Daughter and I were up in the mall, walking around and looking at everything, and wandered into the Bath and Body Works shop, touching and looking and sniffing and testing, and generally moving everything in there.  We came out with a batch of stuff.

One of the things I got that night was some of their Shower Gel. I’ve used that type of product before, but never theirs. I’m not one for flowery scents of most any sort. They remind me of that damned gardenia bush my mother had when I was growing up in Florida. She loved gardenias, would often get 3 or 4 blossoms and float them in water in a shallow dish – the scent was lovely and wafted through the entire house. But when that eff’ing bush came into full bloom and there were thousands of the damned things right under the bedroom windows, it was enough to gag you from a mile away!  Geez, I still hate gardenias. And most every flower scent reminds me of that bush covered in white flowers.

Right turn here to get back on track.

Daughter recommended the shower gels and she was right. I initially was a bit put off by the price (just for soap? just to wash with?) but as less than a half teaspoon of the stuff in one of those fluffy spongy things does the trick, the stuff has lasted far longer than I thought it would – so it wasn’t nearly as expensive as I had first thought. (I admit I use it sparingly, carefully trickling out just the amount needed)

So I got an e-mail from them yesterday saying that they were having a “Buy 3, Get 3 Free” sale, which translates to half price if you buy a year’s worth (or maybe it’ll last longer!)

So I’m already familiar with the Mango Mandarin and grabbed another 3 bottles, and for free, got 3 bottles of Irresistible Apple!!

(And now that I smell so lovely, I gotta go do chores!)

Our local knitting group is really moving along. Through word-of-mouth, some mentions in the local paper and posts on Ravelry, word got around that someladiesyarnie folks were trying to gather together as a knitting group. We’ve been meeting now for 3 months – some attend almost every meeting, maybe some will only come once in a while. But we’ve gotten to know a core group that seems to continue their interest in meeting together for knitting, crocheting and/or fellowship.

Here’s what we’ve done so far:

  • We’ve selected 2 different days/times to meet each month, trying to accommodate as many people and as many differing schedules as possible. One is a weekend afternoon (3rd Sunday of the month, 1-3p, meeting room at the back of the Loockerman Exchange) and the other is a weekday in the evening (1st Tuesday of the month, Zippy’s Ice Cream Shop, 7-9p).  Some, actually many, attend all, but because of other responsibilities, some can only attend one or the other.
  • We’ve played “Show and Tell” at most meetings, with at least a few of us bringing in something to show to the group, a new yarn line, a new magazine or book, a different technique, the current project we’re working on.
  • We’ve gotten to know each other, and appreciate the skills and knowledge that each one brings to the group, willing to share.
  • We’ve discussed becoming a chapter of The Knitting Guild Association – what the benefits are for the group, what responsibilities go with that, requirements for the members. Is this something the majority of the group wishes to do?

A decision was made at the Tuesday night meeting that we should apply for our group to become an affiliated chapter of TKGA. To do this, group members who are also members of TKGA must be selected as officers. All those in attendence were already members of TKGA.

It was agreed that the new officers would hold their office for a period of 6 months and then a new election may be held as needed. Those attending felt that this was appropriate for a newly formed group, where many of the participants are unknown to each other. For this period, we will have Rena M as President, Kathleen D as Vice President, I will serve as combined Secretary/Treasurer and Cathy S will be our Charity Coordinator. The consensus was that we wish to have an informal group, a social group. Our members are interested in charity knitting, and in furthering the craft and our own skills.

If there’s anyone that’s interested in attending, or wants more information, leave a comment or send an email to me.
